Do you want to be nurse, doctor, radiologist, STNA, or even a vet? Well, you choose the right program for you at EHOVE! In Health Tech, we learn about the medical field and pretty much everything in it, from the detail of the body, how each organ works and the systems they are a part of, to how to care for a person. While caring for people, there are very important steps you need to perform, such as always washing your hands. All the hands-on skills we learn in lab, you will be able to take them out into the health field, or even use in your daily life, like the CPR Certification you get!
With STNA(State Tested Nursing Assistant) training, you learn all the correct ways to take care of another person, such as, how to get a person out of bed and into a wheel chair, or even how to make a splint. Another thing you do in this lab is go out on clinicals. This is where you go to a nursing home and take care of people for two days. To tell you the truth, this is something I REALLY didn’t want to do! I was even regretting going into this program a bit, and skipping it was out of the question (attending clinicals is part of your grade)! After you’re there though, you get used to it. To be completely honest, you’ll have fun with them. You will feel more confident taking your STNA test and you will come back with hilarious stories, let me tell you! (Someone farted in my friend’s face!) You just have to make the best of it. If you don’t… well, you won’t get the full experience and understand what you need to know and what other people have to go through. It is an experience to say the least!
Because Health Tech is a Tech Prep program, you are able to take college classes. This is super nice because all the classes you take are free and are paid for by the state. You don’t even have to pay for your books! It is so awesome that I don’t have to worry about those extra classes that I have already taken. It is also nice because I get double credit for my college classes that I take. What I mean by this is that the classes count towards my high school credits and the credits I need toward my degree in college . . . can you say two for one?!
Also, by taking college classes at Firelands, you will be getting a head start on the classes you will eventually need. It helps you become ready to go out to the college that you want to attend and already have an understanding of what it will be like. Another good thing you will get from taking college classes is you will be ahead of your classmates, so you can start your career earlier. Oh, and another plus, you will be sure to meet a lot of friends and have fun in this lab!
